A 4-week bootcamp by Chiara Cokieng

Hi, I’m Chiara Cokieng. I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines.

In 2018, I decided to move to Germany.

Like you, I've felt the struggle and frustration of job hunting abroad. Spending hours writing an application. Never hearing back. Getting on a call with HR. Then getting told I needed a work visa before they could hire me.

I needed a visa to get a job, but in order to get a visa, I needed a job…

I’ve never stepped foot in Germany. Didn’t speak German. Hardly knew anyone… Not just in Germany, but in Europe!

Thankfully, I found a job. I got it abroad from Manila using the skills I teach in this course.

And now I live and work in Berlin.

As an expat, I have many international friends who enrolled in a Master’s degree, hoping it will help them get a job here.

Some found jobs, but many are still looking.

Job hunting is a skill. It’s completely separate from actual job skills. Learning it dramatically increases the likelihood of getting a job abroad.

That’s why I created this course, to help people learn the skills to find a job in a new country.

This course builds on the lessons I’ve learned in the last 8 years. In this time, I’ve worked in 6 companies based out of 3 countries. I’ve held 4 different roles, each one better than the last.

In fact, I joke that job hunting is my best skill. (And job staying is my worst.)

Is this course for you?

If you're looking for a job in a new country, this course might be for you if:

  • You are a valued professional in your current company and home country. You have the skills, the experience, and the attitude to contribute to any company you are a part of.
  • You want to take control of your job search. You attended a good school and got your first job through that. Then, you might have gotten headhunted for your next job. Now, you want to learn the skills to do a self-directed job search, even if your target country may not recognize your home country's education and credentials.
  • Your job hunt abroad is currently your highest priority. This course is focused on helping you actually apply what you learn to your job hunt. Aside from attending one-hour workshops on Zoom twice a week, you will do advanced LinkedIn searches, write to people, and talk to them. We will have feedback and editing sessions to make all this searching, writing, and talking as effective as possible. To be successful, you'll spend at least 7-10 hours per week, during the 4 weeks of the course.

What's included

You will learn a system for taking control of your job search. There are pages and pages of articles on the internet overwhelming us, telling us to network, to customize our application, to practice interviewing.

But how, exactly, do you do all that? In this course, we put it all together.

  • Real-world tactics, examples, scripts and templates that have won jobs for me and friends I’ve coached
  • Live demos of exactly how to network and find the right people on LinkedIn
  • Detailed scripts on what to say to connect with them
  • The 4-bullet point agenda spelling out exactly what to discuss on a call
  • A starter 'tell me about yourself' template, to edit and craft into your two-minute unique and compelling pitch
  • Guidance and feedback from me and your peers, to apply the lessons to your job hunt
  • Social accountability and emotional support, so you actually do what you have to, despite fear, discomfort, and discouragement, increasing your likelihood of success
  • Access to your local network abroad. We now have friends from the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Namibia, the U.S. who’ve moved to Germany, France, the U.K, Australia, and on and on. We are in tech, marketing, advertising, legal, engineering. We’ve trudged through the long, steep, and exhausting experience of job hunting in a new country. Now that we’ve made it to the other side, we are eager to help you and others do the same.

The result? Every day, you will know exactly what to do to get closer to the interview stage. And you will have the responses and the interview invites to show for it.

Curriculum

Unit 1 — Introduction to your job hunting machine

Session 1A: What to expect

Schedule, roadmap, and how to make the most of this cohort-based course.

Session 1B: The mindset that leads to job hunt success

Sure, you need a job. But hiring managers need new teammates and finding great people is tough. That’s why many employers even look abroad. How to think from their perspective, so you can communicate in a way that stands out from all other applicants, allowing you to build rapport more quickly and get interviews more easily.

Your ‘ultimate goal’ would be to generate as many interviews as possible in a two- to three-week period.

Session 1C: Project 100

The system that holds everything together. In brief, you'll aim to send personal outreach messages to 100 people. If you send five emails every weekday, you reach twenty-five people in one week and one hundred people in four.

Unit 2 — Project 100 deep dive

Session 2: How do you find 100 people to talk to?

The four main ways I recommend are: Activate your network. Apply on job sites (the classic). People in those companies you might have a mutual connection or interest with. People in your target industry.

In the course, we'll get ultra specific. By the end of this unit, you will have your main 'categories' and a starter list of 20 people to reach out to.

Session 3: Advanced LinkedIn Search and Connect

Learn how to use boolean search and LinkedIn psychology to find the right people and study their profile, so you can connect in a way they can't ignore.

In a previous job, I designed a system for finding senior leaders in large companies, who knew nothing about me or my company, and getting them to do a one hour phone consultation with my client. All within 48 hours.

This was the job. And I was the best at it. I hired and trained my team, who all had no prior relevant experience, to do this. In this course, I’ll teach you all my secrets.

Session 4: How to use a Personal CRM

How to keep track of your contacts, emails, and call notes. You’ll learn how to organize your job search, so you can manage your time better and focus on the most important stuff.

Unit 3 — Reaching out

The most important unit. We do stuff!

Session 5: Live demo
Advanced LinkedIn Search and Connect

Finding and connecting with people on LinkedIn.

Session 6: Live demo

The Call

So you’ve got a call scheduled. Now what the heck should you talk about? We cover every situation -- new contacts, friends you haven’t talked to in a while, friends of friends.

Session 7: Office Hours and Troubleshooting

We discuss your questions and answer them live. In case of no questions, they’ll be working sessions with your classmates.

Session 8: Office Hours and Troubleshooting

We discuss your questions and answer them live. In case of no questions, they’ll be working sessions with your classmates.

Note: Future units (not included in the pilot) will include HR Interviews, Technical Interviews, and advanced topics such as doing pre-interview projects, producing personalized videos, negotiating your offer, visas and country-specific issues, etc.

Pilot starts April 2021.

What people are saying...

Job hunting is a skill, and Chiara has taken mine to the next level. I could not recommend a better person to teach you about this than Chiara.

Mia SariMia SariGermany (from Indonesia)

She kept me on my toes every day and challenged me on so many levels that being and doing things better became a core part of who I am. She got my back every step of the way.

My sessions with Chiara were the highlights of my week — cathartic, motivating, and honest. I looked forward to sharing my progress, ups and downs to someone who was ready to listen, push my limiting beliefs & impart her own two cents for an additional unique perspective. If you want an honest and accountable coach (& friend) to help you in your journey, I highly recommend Chiara.

Take the course! I definitely recommend it. I discovered so many possibilities that I couldn’t even have imagined from just following LinkedIn ads and company websites. My opportunities arose from conversations where I was expecting one thing, and a different, unexpected possibility showed up. Sometimes, I would feel like it just wasn’t working. Don’t give up. The best opportunity I got didn’t even come from a call. Someone I reached out to recommended me to his boss. Follow the process, make it a routine, and things will happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay to join this course?Yes. It’s US $250 to be part of the pilot. Future cohorts will cost at least US $1,000.

From having to look for a new job while in-between jobs, I understand how tough times can be sometimes. If you are not financially ready to take this course, it’s okay. Don’t take it for now.

I’m offering this now because I’ve seen friends and friends of friends struggle to find jobs, not only in a new country, but in general. Or it’s so intimidating they don’t even try. I want to help and I know I can. Even if you’re not ready now, I hope you’ll consider us in the future. Sign up here to get email updates when we open the course for new cohorts.

In the meantime, you can read free posts about job hunting abroad in my blog. Eventually, we’ll also have a podcast and YouTube channel interviewing people who’ve found jobs and moved abroad. That might be helpful to you as well.

Never hesitate to email me at chiara@chiaracokieng.com. Sometimes we just need to hear from a real person. :)

Will you offer tools to assist with accountability and commitment?Yes, absolutely. I won’t give you the information and say good luck with that! Speaking from experience, I get a lot of excellent advice but get overwhelmed so I don't use it. We address this in the course with structure, concrete exercises with starter templates and soft deadlines, and social support and accountability (hence, the 'cohort-based' course).

Will you help me overcome my fear of approaching 'strangers'?Absolutely. This is an important topic in the course. From my experience and from talking to other people who’ve found jobs abroad, everyone starts out with the fear of approaching strangers. Knowing exactly what to say and how conversations go will reduce the uncertainty and fear a lot. You’ll also start in a safe environment by practicing with your peers.

How should I start off? If they agree to talk, what will we talk about? You’ll have actual LinkedIn Connect scripts, a simple call agenda, etc. ready to plug and play. You’ll collaborate with your peers and me to adapt it to your situation. We’ll practice on each other.

What if I don’t have a LinkedIn account with a large enough network? Can I still do the search without it?Yes. As part of this course, you can connect with me (Chiara) on LinkedIn. This opens your 2nd-degree and 3rd-degree connections to my thousands of connections from almost every country in the world, except North Korea ;)

I’m looking for a job in Canada or the U.S. Will this work for me?For now, we don’t think this course will help with job hunting in Canada and the U.S. Both countries make job hunting for foreign nationals more difficult than the rest of the world.

In the U.S., the H1B visa is awarded via a lottery and totally out of the candidate’s control.

In Canada, we’ve heard it’s all but impossible to get a job in your profession because of the so-called ‘Canadian experience’ requirement (not just international experience).

I'm looking for remote work. Will this work for remote jobs or only on-site?Yes it works for remote jobs. Because most people job hunting abroad are doing it remotely. I’ve done remote work all my life (since 2013). It is near and dear to my heart.

However, for best results, we prefer all six people in the pilot cohort to have the same goal of getting a job in a new country. Sign up here to get email updates when we open the course for new cohorts.

Will you offer another round of this program with the same fee?Future cohorts will likely be more expensive. However, you can 'lock in' the current price by deferring your admission.

Apply and purchase by this cohort's deadline, but join a future cohort.

Just note in your application that you'd like to defer your admission and we'll take care of the rest.

100% 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Success with your job hunt is my #1 goal. And I want this decision to be 100% risk-free. If you decide the course didn't deliver on its promise for any reason, just let me know within 30 days and I'll refund your full payment, guilt-free. All I ask is for your feedback so I can improve the course for future students.
